Rainer on Leadership

Only 1% of churches have an ongoing emphasis on evangelism. Josh and Sam break down what successful evangelistic churches actually do.

    1. Culture: Evangelism is a top-down culture. Evangelistic churches have evangelistic lead pastors.
    2. Frequency: The minimum emphasis is once a quarter. Most successful churches have formal evangelistic opportunities monthly.
    3. Strategy: Gift-giving invites and conversational approaches work best. The “hard sell” evangelism tactics of the past are better than nothing, but are often not as well received.
    4. Measurement and tracking: Lead metrics are more important than lag metrics with evangelism.
    5. Tone: High levels of hospitality accompany successful evangelism and invite strategies.
    6. Accountability: Especially with church staff, there is an expectation of weekly evangelism. Successful churches include “gospel conversations” as a standing item on meeting agendas.
    7. Celebration: Successful evangelistic churches find creative ways to celebrate stories of transformation and testimonies in worship services.
