Pray for ValleyLight Church in West Valley City, Utah

ValleyLight Church is a new church plant in West Valley City, Utah. Their mission is to be a city on a hill, making Jesus unignorable on the westside of Salt Lake County. ValleyLight will launch public services on September 10, 2023, meeting at Ascent Academy, a local charter school.

West Valley City is the 2nd largest city in Utah, located southwest of Salt Lake City proper. The city has a population of 140,000 people, and only four evangelical Christian churches—that is only one evangelical church for every 35,000 people. Their target area has 60,000 people and no English-speaking Christian church outside of the 40 congregations of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. ValleyLight will be using Westfest to say hello to West Valley City. Westfest is a city celebration with fireworks, carnival, parade, and booths. ValleyLight and mission teams will participate in all activities and clean tables during the events.

Jordan Travis and Michael Cooper make up the pastoral team for ValleyLight Church. Pastor Michael Cooper moved to West Valley City eight years ago to serve as the Church Planting Catalyst, helping churches reproduce all over Utah for the North American Mission Board. Michael’s wife, Devon, serves as a local high school math teacher, and they have two teenage daughters.

While helping start churches throughout Utah, Michael became burdened for his immediate neighbors and their lack of access to a Gospel witness. Over the years, he tried to move resources and people to the area without success. With the blessing and encouragement of other local churches, Michael is leading out to start ValleyLight Church for his friends and neighbors. Long time friends, pastor Jordan Travis and his wife, Jordan (not a typo, same name), will soon be moving from Oklahoma to partner with Michael and Devon to launch ValleyLight Church. Jordan is currently raising support so they can move to and minister in West Valley City.

Join us as we pray for these specific prayer needs:

    • Christians living in West Valley will be identified and join the core team.
    • Financial partners to support Jordan Travis and the expenses of starting ValleyLight Church.
    • Mission Teams serving this summer to make Jesus unignorable.
    • ValleyLight will be a blessing to Ascent Academy, where they will be meeting.
    • Michael’s friends and neighbors will put their faith in Jesus and his work on the cross–not in themselves and their own works.
    • God’s favor as ValleyLight launches public services on September 10th.
