We Are First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas

According to the latest reports, at least 26 people are dead, including the pastor’s 14-year-old daughter.

Many more are wounded.

Families are devastated. The small community is in shock.

My words are not adequate.

But these things I will do:

  • I will pray. I will pray for the families of those killed and wounded. I will pray for the church. I will pray for the community. I will pray for Pastor Frank Pomeroy as he leads and comforts his congregation in the midst of his own grief. I will pray for the shooter’s family.
  • I will trust God for His comfort, His promise, and His guidance for those affected.
  • I will pray for the gospel of Jesus Christ to be magnified in this tragedy.
  • And I will embrace in spirit the members of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. I will identify with my brothers and sisters in Christ.

We are First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs.

We are your brothers and sisters in Christ.

We pray for you. We care for you. We love you.

Please, readers, join me in sharing your own prayers and love for this church and all those impacted by this tragedy.

  • Anderson, SC is praying for our brothers and sisters in Sutherland, TX.
We are grieving with you. You are our family! Praying for our sister who is the pastor’s wife and mother. My heart is hurting for you.

  • Father, we knit our hearts together to lift up our brothers and sister in Christ to you. We pray that You wrap your loving arms around them and comfort them as no one else can. And in the days ahead, when it seems they can’t go on, will You send them gentle reminders that Your grace and mercy will see them through. May our Lord Jesus Christ be honored and magnified during this tragic time. Amen

Lord God, please comfort your bride. Please touch them with your healing touch. Walk with them the way You have walked with me. In my grief and despair, you showed me that You have always been there. You have brought many healing moments and people to guide me. Please meet the need of each person in pain the same way. Please God hold them near. Give them strength God, to make it through the chaos of these days, but also carry them through the next few years as others forget, but their lives are forever changed. Lord, help them to trust you. Change us as a people. Draw us closer to You. Stir in our souls and make the gospel message known.

As I listened to Pastor Pomeroy and his wife speak to the press my heart was moved with a sense of awe at their words as they battled tears. The words were strong words of faith through deep pain. Their words were heard by millions. Only our great Comforter could’ve given these two servants of Christ these words that were so humble, transparent, honest and Christ honoring. In a broken world that desperately needs Jesus, I’m praying that lost souls who hear their words and see the love that this body of Christ has for each other, will stop and listen and open their hearts to the truth of God’s love for them and will repent and believe the truth of Christ’s death and resurrection for them. I’m praying also that their testimony will call all of us with like faith in Christ to stand firm likewise in steadfast trust that He never leaves us or forsakes us and that we, as believers are citizens of heaven. My prayer is for healing in the days to come. Healing that only our Saviour can give. I’m praying that the heartbreak will lead to strength. I’m praying that this tragedy will lead to Kingdom triumph to the glory of God.

We don’t know what God wants us to pray for…the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
    Romans 8:26

As one body of Christ, through the Holy Spirit, we also pray with groanings which cannot be fully expressed in words. Pour out your love, comfort, tender mercy and amazing grace to those closest to this tragedy. In the Precious Name of Jesus.

Our prayer here in West Virginia goes out to all the people in Sutherland Springs.
In our family we have been challenged with the diagnosed of Muscular Dystrophy of our eight year old great grandson and how to deal with this but our hurt can never feel the hurt of you in Sutherland Springs. Sometimes is all we have is a prayer and only those directly involved can feel the real hurt, but God understands. God had given so many warnings for people to get right with God. There is no other way except for people to give their hearts s for God. May God bless the people of Sutherland Springs Our prayers will be for healing.

Abba Father, thank you that You are still in control, and that You have sent the Comforter for times such as this. Psalm 56:8 says “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in Your bottle. You have recorded each one in Your book.” Psalm 34:18 tells us that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Isaiah 61:3 says us that “You bestow on those who grieve a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor.” These are just a few of the promises that we can count on. Thank you for them. I pray that You will be glorified through the lives of those who are grieving the loss of loved ones in this horrific act of evil as they let Your light shine through them in spite of their broken hearts. Help us to not neglect to pray for them.
