Pray for Green Hill Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC

Green Hill Baptist Church, located in West Columbia, South Carolina, was organized as a local body of believers in the spring of 1951. They officially formed under their current name later that year. They have a simple mission: “discover Jesus, develop people, and deploy disciples.” Green Hill, under the leadership of their pastor, Jeff Powell, prayerfully and diligently works to remain true to that mission.

Jeff was called to serve as Green Hill’s pastor in 2020, after pastoring three churches in Louisiana and two in Florida. His experience includes 31 years of ministry, including travels to 23 different countries, passionately preaching the gospel while serving the local church. Jeff and his wife of 28 years, Jane, have 5 children, ages 9 to 27! Jeff is also the proud “Pops” to his grandson, Oliver. They love spending time outdoors as a family. Jeff holds a Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Jeff and Jane have experienced many trials, including the sudden and unexpected loss of their 13-year-old daughter, Allie, in 2012. They have also experienced the total loss of their home in Hurricane Katrina. Through God’s grace, they remain surrendered to Jesus while fulfilling the ministry God has called them to. Please pray for them and for the church Jeff serves.

• • Pray for their organizational leadership to continue to be developed and implemented.

• • Pray that they will experience spiritual growth through their intentional “growth track,” moving people from new believers to mature disciples in Christ.

• • Pray for their ministerial growth through their development of intentional ministry teams which support and build up the body as well as minister to their community.

• • Pray for their numerical growth through their active obedience of the Great Commission connected to the four previous prayer requests, resulting in a healthy church body. 

• • Pray for the leadership of Green Hill and their families, that they will keep their focus on Jesus through any adversities that they face, to the glory of God. 

• • Praise God for Jeff, Jane, and their family, that they have remained faithful to their calling, sharing the good news of Jesus despite the trials they have faced along the way.
